Blogging Break

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who reads my blog. The whole blogging thing has really been fun for me over the past couple of years and I intend on getting back to it as soon as possible.

I lost my baby brother last week, unexpectedly, he was 27. He was a sweet, sweet man. His funeral was yesterday. My heart is in a ton of pain and I just don't think I'll be up for blogging for a little while. If you pray, please pray for my family, especially my mom.

Unhappy Hipster

In the span of a week I have had 4 architects and one interior designer email me a link to the Unhappy Hipster blog. If you love modern design from afar (Dwell) but could never really see yourself submitting to a stark, minimalist abode (I talk the talk, but could probably never walk the walk), you will find this blog hilarious. Here are some of my favorite posts...

Daddy was making them watch yet another documentary on the impact of Bauhaus on American architecture.

At this point, the womb chair was played out — so he created his very own womb room. He just knew Eero would have loved it.

If it weren’t for her nocturnal fantasies, their marriage wouldn’t stand a chance.
p.s. I had to work until 12:30 last night! yikes right!? And in an effort to reinforce that a career in design is not all frills and fabric, we made a little photo documentary of the night. I have not seen the pictures yet, but they should be interesting. I turn into a pumpkin at 10 o'clock and pumpkins are not very photogenic.

Free Idea

I have loved M.C. Esher ever since the fifth grade when I used to spend hours (when I was probably supposed to be studying something) staring at this piece in the Bellevue Library.
I have always wanted to do some sort of M.C. Esher inspired design and today I thought of a fun idea, again utilizing the ever available, always affordable, contact paper.
It would be SO easy! and for those of you who are not big on measuring, I think you could eyeball this one.

White contact paper on a chalkboard painted wall {bonus: you could write funny things the birds might be saying}

White walls could work with colored contact paper.

Or you could mix it up. If I hadn't just finished the chevron, I would totally be giving this one a shot. I think the whole wall behind my sofa would be cool.
Burt Reynolds thinks it's cool.
Burt Reynolds, I don't care if you have a mustache, you should not be smoking in my living room.
Here is a template. If you give it a shot, email me, I want to see!

The Upgraded Chevron

It's no secret that the chevron has made a huge splash in the design world over the past couple of years, in a mostly modern way.
{Lonny}
But the chevron, or zigzag, or whatever you want to call it, has been around forever. One of my favorite uses of this geometric pattern is with herringbone wood flooring.
  I also love the same technique with rectangular floor or wall tile.
I could not find a photo, but my favorite is the classic subway tile installed with a herringbone pattern. I love using conventional materials in unconventional ways.

Monday= No Fun Day

I have a bad haircut and a big zit on my cheek. Me and my Monday are not so good.
On the contrary, this bedroom is looking veeeery good. Not sure about everything else, but I know the end tables are from IKEA. Hope your Monday is looking better than mine.

This last one is my favorite. My husband would know this would mean BIG time love.

Our Apartment {Before and After}

Here is the living room, entry, dining room before (before we moved in)
   And this was the bedroom.
And here is the after.

Keep in mind we are renting and are not allowed to paint or have any construction related fun. But it's really starting to feel like home, so much that Mr. Sabbe mentioned wanting to start looking for a two bedroom in the Fall and I told him I'm not quite sure I'm ready to leave our cozy little one bedroom, plus he'll never get me out of the South End. I still have a long list of project to-dos which includes converting my coffee table into an upholstered ottoman, adding covered buttons to the bolster on our bed, lining my living room curtains, and the list goes on and on. I love projects.
