Take Me Out to the Ballgame

....take me out the the field....but there was no ballgame.

We have had a fun filled, touristy, family-in-town, holiday weekend...my favorite kind of weekend! I love out of town guest because it gives me a good excuse to go to places like Graceland..which we did last Thanksgiving. This year we had our nails done at the Nail Bar, saw the ducks march at the Peabody, had lunch at Rendezvous, dinner at the Arcade, walked around the Trolley Tour, took a tour through Ernestine and Hazel's, cruised down Beale Street, and...I've saved the best for last...but first I have to share a quick story.

Bryan and I decided to play a little match maker this holiday season. Our friend Jessica drove us home from a retreat at the river a couple of weeks ago and through hours of conversation and getting to know one another we both had a light bulb go off in our heads (well maybe it was just me, but Mr. Sabbe has all the same light bulbs as me because we're married) I want Jessica to be my future sister-in-law! Unfortunately my brother-in-law lives in Raleigh and the chances of any super love connection was probably slim. But not letting logistics get in my way I arranged a semi-double date last night. I say semi because there were parents there for 50% of the date. And, I must mention, Jessica was a great sport for going on a first semi-double date that included parents! But we sent them home early and that's where my personal #1 touristy event comes back into the picture.

Jessica works for the Memphis Redbirds. She does all the events and entertainment coordination. Last night as we were leaving her apartment, heading to Beale, she asked if we wanted to go walk around the stadium....and we were like uh...yeah! and it was so neat.

Totally empty. We sat in the dougout. I felt like I needed to spit (not very lady-like I know)

I picked out my at-bat song...the Lip Gloss song of course.

Cute right?! I'm the best match maker ever (I think)

Here I am posing like I was running the bases. Mr. Sabbe says this looks more like I'm doing a really weird dance. I think I agree.

If you are ever in Memphis and say...there is nothing to do...call me! I think we could definitely find you something. We love this city!

Let's Play My Favorite Game...

My favorite game is called "I can make that". The game itself reflects my overeager, overconfident, overzealous self more than my sewing skills. But as I work on my short comings and my sewing skills, let's play my game!

Let's keep in mind that this game got me in a weird predicament a couple of months ago. And I forgot to mention! Maharam actually sued a company for following through with their own "I can make that" scheme. Although technically they did knock off one of the most famous design duos ever! One of the Eames grandchildren is curating an exhibit this coming summer in one of the San cities of California (can't remember San Diego, San Francisco...one of those) of all their most famous works. Ohh, what I would give to be an Eames grandchild. I bet they get all the lounge chairs they want.

So anyway, I've stated this before...Mr. Maharam is no messin' around.

But this week I think I can make these. Note when I say I am going to make these, it's more so I'm going to take inspiration from these. So keep calm Anthropology! Not all of us can afford $68 pajama pants...

I want to make this skirt for the Christmas party I'm having at my house next weekend. ($228!)
The ruffle looks a little hard. It might have to be a modified version.

And this just makes me happy! ($78!!) I gasped as I typed. I was thinking I might string real popcorn for my tree this year. It makes me excited to think about.

We'll see what I actually make. Thus far my record is not that great. But a girl can dream!

Happy Thanksgiving if I don't get back to the computer before then. Mr. Sabbe stole my laptop. He's in Boston this week. Isn't that crazy...if we weren't married it would be like Sleepless in Seattle.

Tag-Birdie Blankie

My friend Jenny just had the most beautiful baby. Her name is Addalee Corinne, isn't that the cutest name ever! So I had a couple of craft ideas working in my head and this weekend I was super craft productive. I've been wanting the try a tag blanket and then I got the idea that it would be cute to add a little birdie on the end for her to hold. I used the same pattern I used on these birdies.

And ta-da....Tag-birdie blankie!

Just ribbon and two fabrics...so easy. You really can't see it in the photos but I quilted it a little bit.

Demonstrating the intended use for Mr. Sabbe.

Rolled up and ready to go out tomorrow!

More crafts and pictures of Boston to come!

Goin' Down Back Woods

Tennessee Byways

One arm on the wheel

Holdin' my lover, with the other

A sweet, soft, southern thrill

Worked hard all week, got at little jingle

On a Tennessee Saturday Night!

Couldn't feel better, I'm together
With my Dixie Land Delight!

You can take the girl out of the country.... but you can't take the country out of the girl. I just got back from Boston today!and I loved it. More of that to come.

Sabbe Sacks

Today was a big day for my crafts. My company decided to put me on a page of the fold out Christmas card this year...but hold on...that's not the big news.

My page is going to be about Green Architecture...still not the big news. They told me they were going to do this organic food/recycling type theme and I thought...hmmm...I know some really cute fabric bags I made that would love to have their photo taken by a super famous photographer guy. The photographer who did the shoot has done some stuff for America's Next Top Model. His named has escaped me at the moment, but I'll have it in my follow up post. Anyhow, the marketing group agreed and here you have my little bag's debut photo shoot.

I took this picture like the proud stage mom I hope to never be. I think they thought I was part funny interior designer, part crazy craft lady. Today I am embracing my crazy craft lady side.

I was thinking Sabbe Sacks for my newest name brand, what do you think? I think I like making up fake company names even more than making crafts sometimes. Do you have some friends who might like these for Christmas?

Let's Play Dress Up

Now that the election is over, let's have a little fun!
No matter who you voted for, playing dress up is fun.
I was reading another blog and found that people are starting to make suggestions on what the future First Lady should wear at the Inaugural Ball. I though the suggestions were kind of blaa, so I though I would post my own...in the event that Mrs. Obama might be looking for a fashion consultant for the next 4 years.
The blog I read said her favorite color was purple. That was solidified when I found her Newsweek photo and noted she chose purple for this cover.

So I suggest this! (disregard the fact that I think it's a wedding dress) Cute right!

And maybe with this necklace to give it more of a presidential look.
Oooh, la, la...it's Cartier, which I'm sure she could borrow. Although they are a french company, she may want to keep it all Made in the U.S.A...is Harry Winston from the USA?

I know...pretty good right. If this interior design thing doesn't work out I may have a future in fashion consulting. Don't hold it against me that I'm from Nashville, I don't know who those country music people are calling...but it's not me.
And let's all take a moment to thank the Fashion Industry for uniting us on topics in which we can all delight in offering up our wonderfully differing opinions:)

Wait I Have an Idea!!

No... it's just my chandelier.
I want this for my dining room. There are enough light bulbs for everyone at the table to have a brilliant idea...or two.

by Designer David Abad...I've been fancying it for a while....although it will never be mine. But Mr. Eames Lounge Chair, I refuse to give up on you.

Jesus Rap

All my Church of Christ friends please brace yourself.

We had an anniversary party last weekend at my church. It was not your typical church party. It was on the roof top of the Peabody Hotel and we danced…until we were sweaty….not your typical church party. And while they played some mainstream music like Rihanna’s Live Your Life (love that song), they mostly played Christian music. And when I think Christian music I do not typically think of sweaty dance parties…and that’s why I wanted to share LeCrae’s music. He is a member at my church and if you like rap you will totally like his music.

As much as I try to convince myself to stick to Coldplay, Amos Lee, Patty Griffin and the likes there of.... I always have those afternoons where I just want to listen to rap...real rap. It just pumps me up and I swear it makes me clean my house better… in high school I thought it made me drive better....and in college I believe it got me better dates. I'm positive Mr. Sabbe knew I was marriage material when he saw me drop it like it's hot for the first time.
Now we can drop it like it's hot for Jesus. Kayne better watch out!

I Rocked the Vote

And if you haven't voted yet here are some added incentives:

Starbucks- Free tall 12 oz. one per customer. Just say "I voted"
Krispy Kreme- Free star-shaped dounut. Must show "I voted" sticker (my poll didn't have them...sad...but we don't have Krispy Kreme here...even more sad...)
Ben and Jerry's- Free ice cream scoop 5pm-8pm (note the Downtown Memphis store has closed...sad again!)
Arby's- Free Sandwhich coupons. Not sure if that has to do with the election or not, but you need some meat to go with all of these sweets. And we do have that in Memphs!

That Ain't No Etchosketch

This was one of our favorite costumes ever! The party was at the New Daisy on Beale this year and we had to walk the full length twice. We got alot of "We love you Juno" and "ohhh, it's Juno". The hair is not mine, it's a wig...but those skinny legs on Mr. Sabbe...that's 100% real.
