Baby Burp Cloth

My friend Lanier came over Tuesday night and led a craft party at my house. The craft of the night was crocheting. We all crocheted borders around a baby burp cloth. Crocheting is a pretty tedious little craft. I am impressed little old ladies can do this. I finished today and my hands are so sore. I'm not sure if old age equals arthritis. I'm starting to think it's crafting.
And the question again is, are you and Bryan trying to have a baby? I think my recent crafts are really starting to make the in-laws worry, but no there is no baby in our near future. I have just recently discovered that baby crafts are way more fun and way cuter than big people crafts.

And who needs a baby when you have this little bundle of joy (again, thank God I'm married or you could all be worried)

Attention Shoppers...

Could the owner of this 2007 Hummer please report to the what the heck were you thinking line. I'm going to just go ahead and state the obvious that the owner of this heavy duty, front-chain-bearing, extra large tire on the roof (in the event that someone throws spike nails down in the middle of the Kroger parking lot) has not seen An Inconvenient Truth. And that is fine, not every is a fan of Mr. Gore. They were probably too busy hiking the treacherous terrain known as mid-town Memphis.

I laughed out loud when we pulled up next to this car when stopping at the grocery store this morning. It's not that I haven't seen Hummers. I have. It's just that this one in particular made no qualms about blatantly representing how crudely unnecessary they are in urban/suburban America.

Maybe this guy spends the other 6 days a week using his Hummer on a farm, or in combat, or something, but in the context of this parking lot it was really funny. Maybe he (and I say he in a rather assumptuous way, perhaps it was a woman) was sick of people letting their carts bang up his little Honda. I think if a cart hit this thing the front grill might open and eat it.

More importantly I worry that this person, assuming they live on a farm or are involved in some far off domestic combat, is spending entirely too much money commuting due to the $3.06 I paid at the pump today and there are no farms or combat near my area. I mean $3.06! When I graduated from High School, less than 10 years ago, I remember on occasion paying less than a dollar for a gallon of gas.

But the point of this email is not to condemn Hummer drivers, it's just to throw out there that there are other options. And send an FYI that Hummers don't equal the cool, rich, tough look any more. They equal the crazy look. Unless you meet the exceptions provided above and if that is the case could you please provide some sort of bumper sticker indicating the purpose of the vehicle. Until then here are the Top ten fuel efficient cars to consider for your next grocery trip.

Baby Need a New Pair of Shoes?

I finally made some baby shoes from the pattern many crafty bloggers have found on the Stardust website. I was very proud of these little kicks. I think I went around and showed them to every person in my office, following all conversations with "no, I'm neither pregnant nor trying" just practicing (making shoes of course).
I think I'll give these to my cubicle neighbor who is expecting a baby in a couple of weeks. My crafts never make it on time for the actual shower. The pattern is super easy. If you are crafty, which I know some of you on my "Friend" list are very crafty, you should give it a try. I think my next pair might be UT inspired (Tennessee) which is always a hit with my reproducing friends.

Water for Elephants

I just finished Water for Elephants this week. It was a super easy read. I give it one thumb up. I procrastinated starting due to wanting to read the Glass Castle first. But I had to have it read by Monday for my book club. It's about the circus during the turn of the century. I think it does a great job at explaining how dark and uncomfortable that lifestyle really was.
I was listening to this Patty Griffin song this week that made me think back to the book. It's the song that says "just 17 and already divorced....flying on the ole' trapeze" can't remember the name. Anyway read this book for an easy read and listen to Patty Griffin because she's cool.

Wine, Cheese, and Crafts...My favorite combination!

My friend Jennifer hosted a painting party last night. It is not a big secret that I love crafts of all sorts and being in the design field I do no think people are too surprised to hear that. But the great thing about last night was bringing together accountants, nurses, interior designers, and hospital administration types (hope that's right Tiff) all in the name of crafts!

So Bryan happened to stroll by when I was looking on one of my favorite inspiration websites and see these medical art images. So if you are straining to see what in the world did Stephanie paint....behold...Heart and Lungs. It will temporarily be on display in our home office, in the future look for it at the MOMA.

Stay tuned for Brain, coming Spring 08
